Eric Sharum is in his first term on the Lawton Board of Education, having taken office in February 2008. He serves Area 3, which includes the Carriage Hills, Sullivan Village and Park Lane elementary districts, along with portions of the Lincoln (east of 6th Street) and Pioneer Park (south of Rogers Lane) districts.

Originally from Iron River, a small mining town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Mr. Sharum is a graduate of West Iron County High School. He graduated from Brown Institute in 1987, specializing in broadcasting and communications.

Mr. Sharum came to Lawton in 1987 where he forged a 20-year career in the broadcast industry. He worked at KKRX-FM from 1987-1993, at KSWO-TV as a commercial photographer from 1993-1995, and at KLAW-FM as one of the station’s on-air personalities. He continues to do broadcasts on KZCD-FM where he does play-by-play for Lawton High School football, a role he has had for the past 11 seasons.

He is a realtor with Team McGuire at RE/MAX Professionals in Lawton. He has served as president of the Pioneer Park Elementary School Booster Club and coached numerous sports. A member of the Lawton Parks and Recreation Commission, he served on the Holiday in the Park committee in 2007.

Mr. Sharum’s wife, Cae, is a native of Southwest Oklahoma, and attended Cleveland Elementary in Lawton. They have two sons, Caleb, who is in the fifth grade, and Joshua, a third grader. Several members of his family have worked for the Lawton Public Schools over the years.
